We left for Santa Cruz at 9:30 in the morning. It took us around one hour and a half to get there. On our way we drove through Los Gatos, that is a tinny little town on the mountains.
When we got to Santa Cruz it was windy and a little bit chilly. We walked both along the Pier and the boardwalk where there is a fun park. There were lots of people in the park.
We then went to a gas station where we had the the car tank filled up and the windshield cleaned. We also went to the bank to withdraw some money. Then we went back to the Pier where we had lunch at this restaurant called Riva. My boyfriend had a swordfish sandwich and I had a crab sandwich with cheddar cheese. For dessert I had chocolate and mango ice cream.
After lunch, my boyfriend went for a bike ride all the way up to Santa Cruz University while I stayed at the beach. I strolled for a while before sitting on a bench to read my book. Because it was windy I started to get a little cold and eventually went back to the car. Shortly after that, this man came, a volunteer for the Marine Mammal Center, carrying a net and a big pet carrier. He went down to the beach and using the net he captured this young seal and helped it into the pet carrier. At the distance, I couldn't quite see what he was doing but later I found out that he was looking for a hook on the seal's mouth. As he couldn't find anything, eventually he let the animal go. The poor seal just laid there on the sand. It didn't seem to be in great shape. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures because I didn't have the camera with me.
My boyfriend came back from the ride and we returned to Oakland.

That's beautiful. Poor seal, really. But he didn't get hurt by a hook at least.
