SFMOMA Sept. 1st - first free Tuesday of the month!
Hi everyone,
This coming Tuesday, the 1st of September we will visit the SFMOMA. The tickets are free on this day, but the Richard Avedon photography exhibition will cost $5. I recommend that we see this show, so please be prepared to bring the extra $5 so we can enjoy this retrospective together. You can click here for the link to the museum.
There are also three film clips that will be shown at noon that I think would be worth seeing. Here is some information about those clips:
FREE TUESDAY, Sept 1, Noon, Wattis TheaterClipson Presents Subversive Documentaries
Las Hurdes (aka The Land Without Bread)
Luis Buñuel, 1933, 30 min., 16mm, b/w
Hotel des Invalides
Georges Franju, 1952, 22 min., 35mm, b/w
Le chant du Styrène
Alain Resnais, 1958, 19 min., 35mm, color, cinemascope
Image: George Franju, Hotel des Invalides (still), 1951. Photo courtesy Gaumont Films.
In this program of film shorts, experimental filmmaker (and SFMOMA's own head projectionist) Paul Clipson screens high-art takes on low subjects. Luis Buñuel cast a surreal eye on rural poverty in Spain, Alain Resnais documents the lyricism of plastic, and Georges Franju upends nationalism and military glory. The museum would like to thank the Consulate General of France in San Francisco for its assistance and support of this program.
Museum and program admission are free.
Read about these programs at the San Francisco Bay Guardian – Weekly Pics!
Hope everyone has a great weekend, see you on Monday!

Something that I read in the library.
RICH DAD POOR DAD
Robert is the main character who has two dads. One of them is real, the other one is his best friend's father. The real father is well educated intelligent guy who has a PhD.He makes enough money.
Robert's best friend's,Mike's, father is a businessman who has a couple of grocery stores and a construction company. He is one of the wealthiest people in Hawaii.
One day Mike and Robert want to make money at the age of 7,so they can buy comic books. They go to Mike's father to ask him to teach them how to make money. They think he is a businessman , he is supposed to know how to make money.
The story goes with Rich Dad's teachings.
Both fathers give them different advice.
The real father,POOR DAD, says ''get a good degree ,so you can get a secure and well paid job''.
Mike's father,RICH DAD, says ''you must get a degree, meantime you should learn how to manage money''.They do not teach how to manage money in the school. If you want to be rich , you have to know how to manage money.Otherwise you work for government ,companies etc. You'll always be in debt. You should how to make money work for you.
If you want to be rich , you need to be financially literate..
Talent is overrated
The author defends the idea that there is no such thing as talent as we conceive it, which would be some innate trait that would capacitate someone to perform a given activity better than others. By giving examples of real people and discussing about research that have been made on that matter, he tries to convince the reader that what makes some individuals outstanding in their fields is a special kind of hard work.
It reminds me of a little joke that I heard once, where a woman, after attending a piano recital comes to the pianist and says: "Oh! You played wonderfully! I would give my life to play like that!"
And the pianist replies: "Madam, that is exactly what I did."

If you ever go to Okinawa, Japan, maybe you would like to go visit the Kuroshio Sea – the second largest aquarium tank in the world. It’s very impressive.

Here is a link to a short film about Lorenzo, the Flying Frenchman, who for the past 20 years has been standing on horses. I’m not in favor of using animals in shows to entertain people because unfortunately in most of the cases their interests (benefit, welfare, well-being) are not protected. But this is a different story since there is a relationship of love and respect between man and animals and the horses seem to enjoy very much what they are doing.

Trip to Lake Temescal
We left the school to go to the Bart Station. We hoped to meet other classmates there, butwe could not see them, so we caught the train without them.
When we got to Oakland, we walked a little bit until we m four friends. So, we stayed at the bus stop for 10 minutes and when we were supposed to catch the bus, Lori got there just in time to go with you.
At Lake Temescal, we could see ducks, algae, cat tails and many different kinds of trees. The weather started getting hot, so some people swam and others hiked, I prefered to sit and catch the place with Raquel and Natasha.
We left the place to catch the bus back to school. It was a great trip.
Yesterday
We left our school at 9:30 a.m. We were planning to catch the 9:45 a.m bart to Oakland, then take the 59 bus to the park. When we came out from 19th St BART station, some of our classmates had been waiting there.
After everyone was there, except Pim, we walked to the bus stop between 20th and 21th St to wait for the No.59 bus. The funny thing was, by the time Lori came, the bus was coming right behind her. Hand to imagine if Lori had missed the bus, because there is only one bus every hour.
Quite a while later, finally we arrived there. We walked around and looked for a spot to set up our "base", after we had our station, we put down our own baggage. I played frisbee for a while, then I went to swim. The temperature of the water wasn't warm, also not too cold. I felt cold because of the wind. I ate my lunch at the swimming area over there.
We went back to Berkeley at 1:30 p.m. This trip was pretty fun. I had a blast from the field trip. So great!!

Temescal Lake

Hello everyone,
Today I joined with our class trip to Temescal Lake in Oakland. In the morning, the weather was a little bit cold. First time I thought today might be cold, but in the afternoon the weather was so good; I mean it was temperate. We met together in 19st Oakland bart station and then we took a bus number 59 to Temescal Lake. It was just a few minutes to there. Temescal Lake was not much large but it was such a great park for family or someone who want to relax; I like it, too.
There are a lot of trees, small animals and aquatic animal also. Today was not busy from crowd because today was not holiday; I love it.
Denise, Jeff and Lori swam in the Lake and also they were enjoy. I did not swim because I did not prepare myself for it.
I like to see some kids when they do something. It looks so cute I think and I took some pictures of them, too.
This girl is very cute. She did not be shy when I took the picture.
She was not lonely I think.
She wants to be a photographer, aha
Two girl , one smiles and another almost smiles
This is Brazillian girl but I don't know her name sorry about that. She is cute, too.
Natasha , she is young and also cute.

See you next month or next trip.

Field trip tomorrow 8/18 - Lake Temescal, Oakland

Hi everyone - our updated field trip tomorrow is to Lake Temescal, not Lake Anza. The reason for this change is because the water is warmer at Lake Temescal, so we will be able to swim there.
Please meet at school at 9:00 a.m. Some students are meeting the group at the BART station at 19th Street and Broadway in Oakland between 9:49 and 9:58 a.m., because they live near there. So - either meet us in class at 9:00, or meet us at 19th Street before 10:00 a.m.
From there, we will take the AC transit bus #59 to Lake Temescal. We will arrive at the South end of the park and then walk over to the North end, to reach the swim area.
Click here to see where we are going!
What to bring:
a bag lunch, water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, toiletries (soap, lotion etc.,) paper, pen or pencil, camera, art supplies (if you like,) reading material (if you like.)
The plan is to return to school by 2:30. Some people may want to stay later... including me, but I will make sure that you KNOW how and when to get back to school in Berkeley by 2:30!
See you tomorrow! D
