Notes of today - important vocabulary for you to KNOW

to be down in the dumps - something is wrong

to seem like you’re down in the dumps

to look like you’re down in the dumps


-To pay your dues  - to have worked hard for something, now you deserve a reward

to get better -

- from a sickness  .  I had a cold, but I got better!  =)

- at a talent             I have been teaching language for many years, I think I got better at teaching!

MODAL verbs

have, had better  - necessity
We’d better go we must go

We’d better get back to class, our teacher will mark us late if we don’t go right away.

-To balance the checkbook - make sure the numbers are correct!

-I haven’t seen you FOR days (for a few days), weeks (for a few weeks)
It means, I haven't seen you in some time.

-To feel sick as a dog - to feel terrible
-To work as hard as a dog - to work hard

-That’s too bad -  that’s not good

Do you mind doing something? Is it OK if ….
Do you mind being quiet? Please be quiet
Do you mind if I open the window Is it OK if I open the window

-Remedy medicine, therapy

-I’m coming down with something - I’m getting sick

-Something costs an arm and a leg - It is very expensive

To end up doing something - to do something you weren’t expecting
