HW for 1/29 and my last day with you at Advance!

Hi everyone,

We are completing Unit 4B tomorrow. Within this unit we looked at summarizing. This skill is very important in general and we tend to summarize many of our activities quite naturally. For tomorrow please summarize a movie or book and be prepared to share your written work with your peers and with me.

Also tomorrow will be my last day at Advance, after a year and 4 months! Hope to see you!

HW for 1/20 No school Monday!

Hi everyone,

Remember Monday we honor Martin Luther King Jr. so there is no school.

For HW, please check this video of MLK Jr. and his speech, "I have a dream."

Your assignment is to listen to the whole speech, or at least 5 minutes of it. Next please find one metaphor he uses, write it down and be prepared to speak about this in class on Tuesday.

Please complete page 160, about the verb "get" and all the phrasal combinations.

What we are doing tomorrow - field trip to the Berkeley Marina!

Hi everyone,

Let us meet here at the school tomorrow, no later than 9:00 a.m. We will leave the school around 9:30, take the 51 bus down to the Berkeley Marina, walk around, look at some of the native flora and fauna as well as enjoy the views, the fresh air and some of the local landmarks there. Afterwards, we will walk to the Seabreeze Café, grab some lunch (they make YUMMY sandwiches), we will eat there and then walk over the freeway to 6th and University where we will catch the bus back to downtown Berkely.

If you want to stay on that side of town and explore 4th Street you will be free to do so instead of coming up to the school. I personally will need to take the bus back up and get back to the downtown area by 12:45.

Remember to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, also wear whatever protection you need for the sun (sunglasses, hats, sunscreen) and please bring a bottle of water to hydrate!

See you in the morning, looking forward to our field trip together!

Hi all,

Sorry for posting so late, I didn't really assign any homework for tomorrow, but if you're reading this, why don't you look up a word of interest to you in the dictionaries and corpus. Share what you come up with with all of us.

Also remember to edit your short compositions of yesterday. Rule of thumb: try to avoid overusing idiomatic expressions. Inserting more than two in a short composition is overkill!

See you all tomorrow and I hope we will find out the name of the text tomorrow!
